No Atheists
In A Foxhole
“When you're left wounded on

Afganistan's plains and

the women come out to cut up what remains,

Just roll to your rifle

and blow out your brains,

And go to your God like a soldier”

“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.”

“Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.

“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace,

for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”

“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .”
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

“Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.

“Fixed fortifications are a monument to the stupidity of man."
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died.
Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

The Soldier stood and faced God

Which must always come to pass

Photobucket
He hoped his shoes were shining

Just as bright as his brass

"Step forward you Soldier,

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?"

"No, Lord, I guess I ain't

Because those of us who carry guns

Can't always be a saint."

I've had to work on Sundays

And at times my talk was tough,

And sometimes I've been violent,

Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny

That wasn't mine to keep.

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills got just too steep,

The Soldier squared his shoulders and said

And I never passed a cry for help

Though at times I shook with fear,

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here,

Lord, It needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod

As the Soldier waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Soldier,

You've borne your burden well.

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in Hell."

Major Sabdin Ghani of Seventh Rangers
Thursday, May 05, 2022
Platoon Weapons Course Sept 1965 at MMTS PD.

Lieutenant Colonel Idris Hassan (Retired)
: Sabdin Ghani was a colleague of mine.

We attended Weapon Course together. Always kept in touch since then. A jovial officer with a great sense of humour.

Close Up from the Course Group Photo

Last met him 1974 at 4 Ranger Officers Mess. My 'C' company was then attached with 4 Rangers stationed at Oya Camp doing operations under RASCOM.This is the story of this this evergreen Hero who did not get quite get the honour he actually deserved while in service.

Lieutenant Colonel Fabian Wong (Retired) : A very good account and write-up by Col Baldev. The ambush of 7 Rangers is a great lesson that had been learnt.

The fight back and follow-up Operations by 7 Rangers was commendable. Intelligence played its part. Sabdin Ghani was a hero, he had taken risks and done excellently well. He was a man of great resourcefulness and one full of initiatives. Baldev described Sabdin’s character as what he was.

We were poker-playing mates during promotion examinations time, taking exams was secondary.

Compiled very painstakingly by Lt Col Baldev Singh Johl

Left to right :Major Md Din Abu, WO 2 Nazaruddin("RQ Tiger"),Sgt Jack Minan and WO 2 Abdul Rahman (late)
He is the first RQMS when 7th Rangers converted to Mechanized Infantry and he is damned proud of that. Thus becoming the the first RQMS for 7th Rangers (Mechanized). He was also called "RQ Tiger" by one of the Commanding Officer's of 7th Mech, it will be a crime not to mention the CO, he's Lt Col Zulkapli Abdul Rahman. Nazar served in 7 Rangers from 16th Dec 1989 until April 1994 as RQMS 1, under 3 COs. Apart from Lt Col Zul, they were Lt Col Harbhajan Singh who has since retired and Lt Col Mukhtar, currently the Deputy Director of Infantry. He was involved with the trooping of the Ranger Colors by the King in 1992 in Ipoh, Perak.

He was a pleasure to be around with, witty and colourful. Anyone who had served with YOU would be proud to have served with you, Encik !!!
